About Somerset Holistic Therapies

Lyn Boden
NHS Practitioner

Based in Somerset, ‘Holistic Health’ came to me following a challenging time of bereavement when I delved deep into what makes a difference in the quality of the lives we live. Energised? Depressed? Feeling physically well? Afraid? Sleepless? Anxious? Aches & Pains? Actively wanting to feel well? Take a better control of Health? How we feel matters. At times whether we need nurture, a regular reminder to be body aware or keeping track on health , Complementary Therapies can help with this.

Before this significant time of challenge my work in Corporate as a National Account Manager saw me working throughout the UK & Ireland.

Previous to this I had over 15years in the Healthcare Sector providing Community Care services on behalf of Somerset Social Services to over 200 service users across Somerset.

I commenced and completed my Complementary Therapy training over a 5 year period , one full year training in each therapy , together with a full years study and examination specifically in Anatomy and Physiology of the human body.

Making the change from Corporate to Health I took up post for many years as an NHS Unit Manager , I initiated , developed and Managed a Complementary Health Therapy service to patients with life limiting illness and complex challenging specialist needs, Cancer and Palliative care. Recruiting and training therapists, and providing NHS teaching sessions in adapted therapies for End of Life care. Currently, in addition to my private practice, I work in the Beacon Centre Musgrove Park Hospital providing Complementary Therapies to ward Inpatients and booked Outpatients receiving cancer treatment.

I have my own practice in Burnham on Sea.

As a CNHC Registered Professional Qualified and insured in each of the therapies listed I provide:

• Holistic Body Massage
• Indian Head Massage
• Clinical Reflexology
• Clinical Aromatherapy
• Reiki
• M Technique
• Essential Oil clinics
• Guided Visualisation
• Teaching
• Workshops
• One to One Study Days

Cancer Care  & Palliative Care

I have worked a lot with cancer patients and  am an enthusiastic advocate and motivated supporter of the aims and objectives of Holistic cancer care. I  have seen first hand in my work within Hospice  how  gentle massage and touch therapies can make the world of difference to those facing challenging complex health problems . Holistic therapy does not cure illness but it can be incorporated as a supportive , caring therapy received

alongside conventional medicine to enhance the lives of patients and families.   I have gained  a thorough understanding of the positive difference Holistic treatment can make physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually during what can be a time of overwhelming confusion. My work with cancer patients  has led me to research the field of cancer care and I possess a confident understanding and knowledge of cancer survivorship of people living with or beyond cancer

Working with other Healthcare providers

This expertise together with my past experience working in a community setting  in collaboration alongside key contributors and  multidiscipline NHS teams , Social Workers, and care staff providing community Health services, building relationships to improve patient’s holistic care gives me thorough knowledge and experience of managing services and therapies with a whole person approach. Sometimes you may want or benefit from information on other services , these could be medical ,  affiliated, exercise or beauty ,  names , numbers or leaflets are all available for referral. With my experience and length of time living locally in the area I have access to lots of information and  happy to share knowledge of what exists and  is available

What happens when you want to try a therapy ?

You can contact me on the contact page of this website and I can call or email you to discuss with you in confidence any questions you may have relating to the Holistic therapy treatments I provide.   Initially I will ask you to fill in a 'Consultation Form' this takes detail of your current health conditions and any medication you are currently receiving , together with age and personal  circumstances in relation to levels of stress at home and if applicable work. Using this as our basic information we then agree together what treatment is best for you to gain most benefit from. It might be that in an hours therapy you have a combination of work ,  incorporating some reflexology, some  head and sinus drainage, and body massage.  Treatments can be one or a combination. You pay for the time you have rather than the therapy.  The first session you will need to allow an additional 15minutes where we go through the consultation form together, to discuss how and if therapy can help you , and our best choices of therapy. This initial 15 minutes consultation is  Free of charge.
